چکیده

Background Cardiac imaging in obese adults poses significant technical challenges, yet the prognostic value of diffuse myocardial fibrosis in obese adults quantified with cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) extracellular volume fraction (ECV) measures is unknown. This issue is important because obesity increases the risks of death and hospitalization for heart failure (HHF). Myocardial fibrosis measured in obese adults with ECV may indicate vulnerability to death and HHF.

Myocardial Fibrosis Quantified by Extracellular Volume Is Associated With Subsequent Hospitalization for Heart Failure, Death, or Both Across the Spectrum of Ejection Fraction and Heart Failure Stage.

BACKGROUND Myocardial fibrosis (MF) in noninfarcted myocardium may be an interstitial disease pathway that confers vulnerability to hospitalization for heart failure, death, or both across the spectrum of heart failure and ejection fraction. Hospitalization for heart failure is an epidemic that is difficult to predict and prevent and requires potential therapeutic targets associated with outcom...

Effect of endurance exercise training on morphological changes in rat heart tissue following experimental myocardial infarction

Introduction: Cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction, is associated with progressive ventricular dysfunction and cardiovascular death. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of endurance exercise training on morphological changes in rat heart tissue following experimental myocardial infarction. Materials and methods: Rats used in this experiment (8-10 weeks old, 235 &p...

Overweight or obese BMI is associated with earlier, but not later survival after common acute illnesses

BACKGROUND Obesity has been associated with improved short-term mortality following common acute illness, but its relationship with longer-term mortality is unknown. METHODS Observational study of U.S. Health and Retirement Study (HRS) participants with federal health insurance (fee-for-service Medicare) coverage, hospitalized with congestive heart failure (N = 4287), pneumonia (N = 4182), or...

Effect of high- intensity interval training on tissue changes of collagen type 1 and fibrosis percent in male rats with myocardial infarction

Introduction: Myocardial infarction (MI) is defined pathologically as cardiac muscle cell death due to abnormal blood flow, prolonged coronary artery ischemia, and replacement of cardiac tissue necrosis as a dense fibrotic lesion. Expression of collagen-1 protein levels and fibrosis increase after myocardial infarction in cardiac tissue. The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of...

Relation between craniocerebral injury and subsequent myocardial fibrosis and heart failure. Report of 3 cases.

The findings at necropsy in three cases of severe craniocerebral injury associated with unconsciousness are reported with special reference to the histopathological findings in the myocardium. In the first case, death occurred 3 days after the trauma, in the second case 21 days after, and in the third case, 7 years after. Necropsy showed myocardial lesions of recent origin in the first case, st...
